Dear Church – Remember Who You Are

Dear Church,

Sometimes in all our doing – in the classes, the meetings, and even the problems – we can forget who we are. We begin to measure the church by attendance charts, social media engagement, or how smooth the service ran last Sunday. But none of that defines us or who we are.

We are the body of Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:27)

Not a social club. Not a nonprofit organization. Not a brand. We are the people through whom Jesus still works in the world. When we serve, it’s His hands that touch. When we speak truth, it’s His voice that calls. When we love each other, it’s His heart that beats among us. There is an old hymn that comes to mind, “Let Jesus Dwell Within Your Soul”.

We are the bride of Christ. (Ephesians 5:25–27)

That means our loyalty belongs to Him alone. The church doesn’t belong to the preacher, the elders, the loudest members, or the biggest contributors. The church belongs to Christ. We exist to please Him, not ourselves. The moment we forget that fact, we drift toward spiritual adultery: loving our traditions, our comforts, or our image more than our Lord.

We are the temple of God. (1 Corinthians 3:16)

That means holiness matters. It’s not about being perfect; it’s about being set apart. The church isn’t a place we go to on Sundays – it’s who we are every day. When we carry bitterness, hypocrisy, or pride into the body, we defile something sacred. But when we forgive, repent, and love, we reflect the presence of the Holy Spirit dwelling within us.

So, dear church, remember who we are. We’re not just another group of people trying to get along. We are the redeemed, bought with blood, called to live like citizens of heaven while we walk the soil of earth.

Let’s not act like a business trying to grow customers – let’s act like a family learning to love. Let’s not fight for control – let’s yield to Christ’s headship. Let’s not measure success by numbers – but by faithfulness.

The world is watching. More importantly, heaven is too. Let’s show both what it looks like when God’s people truly remember who they are.
