Dear Church – The Small Things

Dear Church,

The small things often shape our faith more than we realize.

We usually notice the big moments like baptisms, answered prayers, and milestones in faith. However, it is often the quiet blessings that sustain us every day. A warm handshake at the door. A familiar hymn. A short conversation in the hallway. A text checking in. A shared prayer. These may seem ordinary, but they are sacred.

Because they are so routine, we sometimes overlook them. We assume tomorrow will look like today. Then, suddenly, something changes. A canceled service. An empty pew. An illness. A difficult season. Therefore, we are reminded how meaningful those simple moments truly were.

God Uses Faithful Consistency

God has always worked through small and faithful acts. A widow’s offering. A cup of cold water. A word spoken in season. Likewise, daily encouragement, regular worship, faithful attendance, gentle words, and steady service quietly build strong congregations and steady disciples.

The Christian life is rarely shaped in dramatic leaps. Instead, it is formed through consistency. Showing up. Opening our Bibles. Praying together. Bearing one another’s burdens. Choosing kindness even when it would be easier to withdraw. Over time, these small things produce lasting spiritual fruit.

Also, we should never underestimate the power of encouragement. A brief conversation after worship, a note of gratitude, or an invitation to study the Bible may feel insignificant in the moment. However, God often uses those small efforts to open hearts and strengthen faith.

Because of this, every act of kindness matters. Every prayer matters. Every effort to serve matters.

Finally, let us be thankful for the routine blessings: the opportunity to assemble, the freedom to open God’s Word, the family we have in Christ, and the chance to serve side by side. Let’s slow down enough to notice them, and grateful enough to cherish them.

May we never become so busy that we forget how rich we already are.
