Teach Me Lord to Submit to Your Will

Teach Me Lord to Submit to Your Will

Submission is not a word our world celebrates. We are encouraged to follow our hearts, pursue our own dreams, and determine our own truth. Yet from the beginning, God’s call has been different. He has always called His people to trust Him enough to surrender their own will to His.

Jesus demonstrated perfect submission in the garden as He prayed, “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). Those words were not spoken from weakness but from unwavering faith. Jesus knew what lay ahead, yet He willingly placed Himself under the Father’s will because He knew the Father’s plan was perfect.

Submission to God does not mean we will always understand His ways. There will be times when His commands challenge us, His timing tests our patience, or His providence leaves us with unanswered questions. Yet faith reminds us that God’s wisdom is infinitely greater than our own. The One who created us knows what is best for us.

Submitting to God’s will is more than agreeing with Him when life is easy. It is choosing obedience when His commands are difficult. It is trusting His promises when circumstances seem uncertain. It is surrendering our plans when His direction leads us elsewhere. Every act of obedience is a declaration that we believe God knows better than we do.

Ask yourself honestly: “Am I asking God to bless my plans, or am I seeking to follow His?” Those are not the same thing. True discipleship begins when our greatest desire is no longer to have our own way but to faithfully walk in His.

So let this be our prayer today: “Teach me, Lord, to submit to Your will.” Help me to trust Your wisdom above my own understanding, to obey Your Word without hesitation, and to follow wherever You lead. May my life continually reflect the humble spirit of Christ, who always sought to do the will of His Father.

May God continue to teach us, shape us, and make us more like His Son.
